Summer ‘22 Interpreter Prep (SL:4)Interpreter Prep To qualify for this class, each student must interview with the instructor to assess skills and vocabulary. Using Videos with Live interaction, students develop voice-to-ASL and ASL-to-voice skills. Fluency in ASL is only one of several competencies needed to effectively interpret. Interpreters must also know how to assess the communication preferences or language level of the deaf individual and then adapt their interpretation to meet these needs. They must understand the meanings and intentions expressed in one language and express those meanings and intentions in the other language. Interpreters must be able to retain information and manage the flow of the communication, most often in real time (simultaneously). This class is not for perfectly adept students, it is for students wanting to move their own skills forward, with the involvement and encouragement of others. We will meet 12 times throughout the Summer.
