Guitar 1
This is where it all starts. Learn chords, simple strums, and tuning in a fun, relaxed group setting. You’ll be introduced to the basic elements of rhythm and harmony that will have you making music in no time! Students will work on beginner Music Theory, finger mechanics, melody chords and building their ear, on their way to becoming excellent musicians. Students Must commit to practicing 30 MINUTES EVERY DAY. Guitar 1 is the introduction to a comprehensive course (Guitar 1, 2, and 3) where proper technique is always stressed, with the of each student successfully playing any piece of music that interests him or her, both now and in the future. You will learn to read music, as it opens the written history of music, which then allows you to play music from any period in history. Music theory is studied and allows the student to understand musical process. Music history, as it pertains to modern guitar, is also covered where the people who were instrumental in developing the instrument's role in popular music are studied . At the end of these three courses, students will have been introduced to scales, intervals (melodic and harmonic) and chords. Using these concepts, you will be able to play everything from simple pieces, as well as duets, chord solos, and ensemble works. More importantly, you will understand how they work, musically. We play traditional folk songs, music from the Baroque, Classical and Romantic periods, and of course the more modern, Blues, Jazz and Rock and Roll. Smoke on the Water, Dream On, and Born to be Wild will be learned - in part or in whole. These tunes reinforce the skills that are taught in class. Guitar 1 is for the absolute beginner. Students leave Guitar 1 with the following:- Basic open position chords: A, D, E, G, C, Am, Em, A7, B7, D7, E7, G7
- A sense of playing single notes and a few licks
- Essential boom-chicka strums in 4/4 and 3/4 time
- I-IV-V tunes in A, D, G, and E
- A solid sense on how to read a “lead sheet”
- The desire to keep playingGuitar 1 is for the absolute beginner.
