Conversational Sign Language – part 2 (Thursday)
This is a 14 week course.
Building on what the students learned in Part 1, the class will move forward in their ASL communication skills. Attention will be paid to sentence formation, presenting thoughts and information in ASL syntax and following the rules of the language. Each student will bring topics of discussion each week, and will lead the group on discussing the topic. Student assignments will include translating Bible verses and stories into ASL. They will converse with one another; and they will voice in English what classmates sign.
We will learn more about Deaf History and Culture, through interviews with people who are deaf, as well as through interviews with ministers, missionaries and teachers for the deaf. Videos will be assigned to further understanding and insight into Life as a Deaf person.
If a students has taken Sign Language instruction elsewhere, but would like to join this class, please contact the instructor so as assessment of skills may be done.
